Dear Sisters and Benefactors,

Loving greetings to you from all of us in Margaretha Home.  Days pass by so fast. Soon it will be Advent and then Christmas.  For now, we are here once again to share with you our activities and fun-time together during last month.

The highlight of October was the celebration of the Oktoberfest, it included the Birthday-Celebration of those who have their birthdays from July to December.  All celebrants wore something blue.  The afternoon began with a lively dance, accompanied by the German folk-music and German yodel-songs.  For snacks we served pizza, beer (for adults) and Sprite and other Soda drinks.

We also commemorated All Saints’ Day at Margaretha Home with a Mass in the afternoon.  We prayed for all our deceased family members, loved ones and members of Margaretha Home, we also included our deceased benefactors.  Shortly after Mass, we had a prayer service, wherein each one of us present, the blind residents, staff and Sisters, lighted vigil lights in honor of those who we prayed for.  Know that your deceased loved ones were included also in our Mass and Prayer Service for the Departed.

An added update… during the past month, many improvements were observed with some of our blind residents.  They are more sociable, attentive to the needs of their fellow blind residents, and they are very active in various activities.  They are still doing fairly well in schools and in the Learning Center.  We thank God that the sessions on the “Safe Circle” provided by our Social Worker, Ate Lanette, helped our blind to be more open to express their feelings and concerns.

Thanks for all your support. It helped our blind girls to find their home… to feel and really be in a safe place at Margaretha Home.  Know that this is also your mission, the mission of love.  In thanksgiving, we offered our Mass last November 4 for you and for your loved ones.  We hope, you enjoy receiving and reading our monthly update shared with you.  Let us keep each others in prayers.  Thanks and God bless!

Dear Sisters and Benefactors,

Here we are once again sharing with you the update on our mission for the blind.

Loving greetings to you from the blind residents and staff of Margaretha Home and from us, the Sisters.

Let us together thank and praise our good God, that we were finally able to locate the sister of Sunshine, Gretchen.  Sunshine is the youngest member of Margaretha Home.  Gretchen was transferred from the orphanage to Pasig and is now living with her foster family.  You should have seen the joy of Sunshine; when we finally told her, that we found her sister, and that we were taking her to meet her once again.  The foster mother of Gretchen is very cooperative, and she is willing to keep the two siblings in good communication.

Our high school girls are doing well with the self-defense program, which was offered to them by a good benefactor. We thought to share with you some of their pictures in action.  We thank Ms. Jade for her patience in teaching our girls.  It is truly a big challenge for her to teach visually impaired students.  If all goes well, Ms. Jade would like to enlist our girls to the Jiu-jitsu Competition in September 2018.  We will “see”, if our girls will really be able to.

This year is the Golden Jubilee Year of Sister Theresia as a Sister of Christian Charity.  We will have a simple celebration with a Mass, and our blind girls and staff prepared a special program for the day.  A good benefactor will provide the lunch for the day’s celebration.

So far, all our blind girls are doing fairly well.  They are all looking forward for the semestral break in school at the end of October, so that they can come for camping once again to the convent.  Those who have family will be able to go home for a few days.

Once again, thank you very much for all your interest, concern, help and prayers extended to our mission.  Please know, that we are ever thankful to you for your supportive care and love.  We are in this mission of LOVE together.  In gratitude our Mass this coming October 15, Sunday, at Margaretha Home Chapel will be offered for you and all your loved ones.  Let us continue to pray for one another.  God bless us all.

Dear Sisters and Benefactors,

Loving greetings to you once again from all of us – the Sisters, the blind residents and staff of Margaretha Home. These past few weeks and days were filled with many prayer intentions especially for the victims of various natural calamities.  Let us be united in our prayers for all of these and for God’s continued help and blessings.

August was a busy month at Margaretha Home. The residents had group sessions on Child Protection against abuses and also on creating a “safe circle”.

phil 2017They also celebrated “Buwan ng Wika (Language Month)” with a debate on the topic of – “Secrecy Law”, based on the political behaviors, issues and situations. They were divided into two groups. This is one of our ways for the residents to learn to express themselves openly and also to respect the opinion of others. With regards to the schools of our blind girls, we received their class report cards and they are all doing fairly well.

Last month, assessments and tests were done on Rowena, our blind who mostly needs assistance.  With the help of our Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, she is now able to say few more words and can express some of her feelings.  This might seem to be a slight improvement to others but for all of us at Margaretha Home, we are all happy for her.

With all these updates, we would like to inform you also that our Mass last September 9 at 4 p.m. in Margaretha Home Chapel was offered for you and all your loved ones.  Thanks again for all the prayerful and loving support, your care and help extended to our mission for the blind.  We are united in “Sister to Sister Project” by our prayers.  God bless us all!

Dear Sisters and Benefactors,

It seems, that we just emailed out our July update, and now it is another month.  Time surely passes by fast nowadays.  However, we would like to take time to share with you our mission for the blind and how our blind girls are doing lately.

july phil1july phil2Mery Ann, our newest member, who came last July 1, is doing much, much better.  She is now able to eat by herself with silverware and take care of some of her basic personal hygiene.  Her way of walking and doing the steps is better, and she has a good orientation ability.  However, she needs to work more on her motor skills, since for the past 16 years, all she did was “lie down, get up, eat, lie down, get up, eat”.  She gets along very well with everyone in Margaretha Home.  Please, help us pray, that she can truly experience love, so that she will be able to love others also.

July is the National Nutrition Month, so we celebrated it on July 24.  The theme was “Healthy Diet Gawing (made it) Habit For Life”.  The blind girls were divided into three groups and each group with a housemother prepared a cooked meal using the AMPALAYA (Bitter Melon) Vegetable.  They explained the nutritional value of this vegetable and explained, why and how they prepared the dish.  We then shared the three kinds of Ampalaya dishes for our dinner.  We all enjoyed the meal.

All our blind students are doing well in their schools.  Whenever they are out of school due to bad weather, they busy themselves with making cards in the workshop.  Before we know it, Christmas Season will be here.  They are always eager to do these cards, because the donations for these cards are used for their summer outings and fun days.

Once again, thank you for being part of our Margaretha Home Family.  Thanks for all your help and love extended to our blind girls and to our mission.  With grateful love, you, your family and all your loved ones will be remembered in our Mass at Margaretha Home Chapel this coming Saturday, August 5, at 4 p.m.  Let us keep each other in prayers.  God bless!
